Ceramic gas sensors have been used to detect toxic, explosive and harmful chemicals and their applications are rapidly expanding to the various fields such as medical diagnosis, environmental monitoring, and food freshness monitoring. Moreover, artificial olfaction will become more important with the progress of pattern recognition, sensor integration, sensor networks and Internet of Things. This symposium will provide a forum to present recent progresses in the design, understanding, development and applications of ceramic based gas sensors using oxide semiconductors, solid oxide electrolytes, carbon-based materials, and metal chalcogenides.
